If you’re a petrol head then you may want to look away now, as the images of this Ferrari F40 are utterly chilling.

There is nothing that will tear a petrol head apart quite like a smashed up supercar. Half of you wants to examine the wreckage, because it’s all the cool stuff you generally don’t get to see, while the other half dies a little inside.

That’s exactly what will happen when you have a good look at this smashed up Ferrari F40.

An 80-year-old German businessman from Stuttgart was behind the wheel at the time, driving near the Swiss border. As grim as the wreckage looks, he escaped mostly unharmed. He was admitted to the local hospital, just to be safe.

According to Sudkurier (via Google Translate), “Only 10,000km were on the clock [at the time of the incident].”

Police reports suggest that the amount of damage caused to this beautiful beast is in and around the €250,000 mark. That might be true, if you could walk down to the local shop and pick up the parts, like you can with most other cars. This, however, is a Ferrari F40. A 2.9 litre, 471hp Ferrari F40 that could easily reach 320kph in its day. Oh, and only 1,315 of them were ever made.

So we’re going to assume that a full rebuild on the F40 is going to cost a tad bit more.
