We’re now past the halfway point of our 10-week challenge.

Last week, we spoke about how reaching the halfway point was a huge milestone. Now that we’re on the other side of that, the end target is finally coming into sight.

As huge an accomplishment as this is, you aren’t the only one to have overcome it. It’s time to find other likeminded people.

Quit To Fit Week 6

Up to this point, life coach Raul Aparici has provided weekly words of wisdom for our quitters. That isn’t going to change now, and he said that now is the time for you to try to expand your group of friends.

“There is an apocryphal quote attributed to Jim Rohn where he says that we are the average of the five people that we spend the most time with. Other psychological researchers have come to similar conclusions, and common sense tells us that there must be some truth in this.”

“Play to your strengths, seek out the company of your non-smoking friends and work on increasing your social circle. A great way to do this is through group fitness activities such as yoga. Regardless of how you feel about yoga or whether you have tried it before or not, this is a great opportunity to experience being in a different environment with different people,” Raul said.

This is a new stage of your life. It’s only right that you start looking for new things to do, and new people to do them with.

Make some new friends

“If you, like Jean-Paul Sartre, are of the opinion that ‘hell is other people’ and have labelled yourself as a shy introvert in the past, you might find this challenge particularly difficult. It will mean leaving your comfort zone well and truly behind; however, you can do this while being kind to yourself.

“This is only your first yoga class, you can always come back and as you feel more and more comfortable you can introduce yourself to others in the room. As your confidence grows, so will your social skills but remember the first time you do something new it is always the hardest,” he said.

Making new friends doesn’t mean giving up your old ones. If some of your old mates are smokers, there is every chance that they will be tempted to follow your example by quitting.

“That does not mean, of course, that you should leave your old mates behind; but it might be a good idea to let them know why you are keeping the distance and who knows, maybe they will be encouraged to join you in giving up the smokes?”

If this is something you want to get involved in, let us know your progress by using #QuitToFit on social media. If your friends join in, be sure to remind them who the first one was to start this trend…
