Remember these?

So much has happened in Irish society during 2015 that it’s easy to forget some of the biggest events and stories from the past 12 months.

The Berkeley tragedy, marriage equality, sporting highs and lows, viral sensations and Teresa Mannion were just some of the memorable moments but we’ve decided to take a look back at the year that was 2015.

Here’s what you were all reading, watching and listening to on JOE.ie in January.

9) The chancer who tried to take his friend’s mam to the debs

Anthony Pinnisi, from Virginia asked his mate for permission to take his mother to the debs but there was a catch as seen in this text below.

He actually managed to get 50,000 retweets but sadly the school board intervened and prevented Anthony from going out on a date with this lady. Top marks for effort though.

8) A different and wonderful side to Conor McGregor

An incredible young man by the name of Jay Mooney was named as Ireland’s Young Carer of the Year in 2014 after helping to take care of his mam, Sabrina, who was diagnosed with Meningitis at 19, ultimately suffered a stroke and was then also diagnosed with epilepsy shortly after he was born.

Jay looked after her through her seizures, as well as helping his mother with his younger sister Lexie while his dad was at work.

Sadly things took a turn for the worse for Jay when was diagnosed with Hodgkin’s Lymphoma. The father of this wonderful young man helped turn Jay’s spirits around though with a visit to UFC Boston and a memorable visit from a certain someone.

Two words will stay with us for the rest of our lives from that story, ‘audible snap’.
