Tom Hardy has played a huge range of characters since he burst on to the scene a few years back, ranging from the uber-stylish Eames in Inception to the pumped up Bane in The Dark Knight Rises, and it even looks like his character’s sheep skin coat is actually making a return to the wardrobes of a few stylish men, so maybe he was ahead of the trend there…

Speaking of coats, that’s a good a place as any to start to get your outfit going on the right foot. Classic cuts and elegant style are always going to be in fashion, so this trademark trench coat can top off an outfit from a suit right down to jeans and a shirt.

The look sported by Hardy in this snap is one which shows that exact classic style jacket, an iconic look that harks back to the old school, and if you watch Mad Men at all, you’ll notice this type of jacket making an appearnace on a regular basis.

With coats like this, there are normally a few colours available, and while the one Tom Hardy wears is possibly the most well known, don’t worry about looking for black, grey or navy if you don’t want something so bright, and they can often be easier to match to the rest of your outift.

Underneath the coat, a smart casual shirt with an open collar works for almost any occasion, and JOE has been working in the odd blazer to our wardrobe recently too. While the jacket and the pants in this look don’t exactly match, the slim tan belt serves as a nice divide between the two so you don’t have to worry about that too much.

When it comes to belts, once again go for simple and classic. Huge buckles with diamonds and studs everywhere are going to look dated pretty quickly, but the one that Hardy has here wouldn’t look out of place ten years ago and probably won’t ten years from now.

If you’re going much more casual, which Hardy often does, then denim is in style, in particular, the double denim is now more acceptable than it used to be, just make sure not to over do it and go for the triple jeans, shirt and jacket, otherwise known as the “Canadian tuxedo”. That’s not a good thing.

Here, Hardy, rocks a simple t-shirt but also has the double denim. The colour of the shirt separates the two denims, but with the sheepskin detail on the inside, the coat also stands out from the trousers on its own. Just make sure to match coat this to other denims, that’s when it looks its best.

If you want to go for something slightly less adventurous, then plain is the key, just make sure to get your clothes properly fitted. If you’re concerned about carrying some extra weight, going too big just makes you look bigger, and the opposite is true if you’re worried about not looking bulky enough.

Here, Hardy wears a simple fitted shirt without extra frills, as well as a well chosen pair of jeans that are a regular fit without going too wide at the bottom and becoming a boot cut. Simply rolling the sleeves up gives that effortlessly relaxed look, no matter how long you might have spent trying to throw it together.
