Letter addressed ‘Ronan O’Gara, Ireland number 10, Cork’ arrives at his home in France

Ronan O Gara An Post

Wrong address? No problem.

Ireland’s postal service, An Post, have often blown us away with their attention to detail and their truly baffling commitment to getting the job done.

You may remember, for example, this Argentinian postcard which miraculously made its way to Cork, this incredibly vague letter sent with the best of intentions and finally, this piece of post addressed to James Connolly Memorial Hospital with just a Euro in the place of a stamp.

And as for international transfers? Usually, they can be unreliable enough to justify the term ‘got lost in the post’, but not when you’ve got the good people of An Post stacking your letterbox.

Ronan O’Gara is the latest benificiary of their incredulity, posting to Twitter a recent delivery which was addressed only to ‘Cork’, a delivery which still managed to reach its final destination in one of Europe’s biggest countries, France.

Not only was the letter addressed to Cork, it only had a €1 stamp on it in place of a legitimate international stamp – so the mystery of how it made it across Europe without the proper paraphernalia attached, never mind any real address, is pretty sensational.

His name, former position as Ireland’s out-half and county are the only things listed on the delivery but it still managed to be delivered to its rightful place some 1,300km away.

“Arrives to the house in France!!!” a disbelieving tweet from O’Gara read on Thursday.

While some may consider this not too much of a challenge considering the household name status of ROG – getting a piece of post delivered to his house on the continent with zero indication of where it is, we think, is pretty impressive.

Not all heroes wear capes.
