With another Bank Holiday weekend almost upon us, we look at the simple things that can go a long way to making us happy for the duration of it.
Three Lie-ins
Now, we know that sounds like a Dub with a heavy accent describing the England football crest, but it can never be underestimated. You have a lie-in on Saturday, Sunday and Monday. That’s loads of time to replenish the batteries and ensure you catch up on all those lost hours. It’s one of life’s great pleasures being able to switch off the Monday morning alarm.
Barbecue Central
The weather forecast is decent for the weekend. When Irish people get a semblance of good weather, inevitably barbecues come into play. They are de rigeur for modern day society. It’s such a great feeling eating al fresco with your family and friends, catching the rays and having the craic. Playlists are already being created in anticipation. Aprons are optional.
TV Show Catchup
Lots of people use the long weekends to catch up on whatever TV shows they’ve missed. Box sets are brought out and TV show marathons ensue. Be it Breaking Bad, The Walking Dead, House of Cards or Nationwide, we all have something we’ve been meaning to watch. The long weekend offers us a great time to do it.
Staying Up Late
We all know our readers are old enough to decide when it is time for bed, but we also know that if there is work or college or whatever in the morning, invariably an early night has to be taken. With us being off for three whole days, Friday, Saturday and Sunday night are all potentially late nights for us to go out, have parties or watch those boxsets.
Weekend Away
We all need something to look forward to. Bank Holiday weekends are great times to get away for a couple of days. It’s like a mini-holiday before the main event in the summer. Get away with your mates or your loved ones or get away by yourself and discover this beautiful world we live in. Make sure you update us about every second of the break on social media so as to annoy your friends and peers. Selfies are mandatory.
Computer Game Completion
Whatever game console you have, there is probably that one game you have not completed yet. The long weekend affords the gamers amongst us ample opportunity to clock those games. Whether it be ‘Infamous Two – Second Son’ or building everything there is to build on ‘Minecraft’, this is the time to do it.
Guilt-free Sunday Night Pint
Lots of people baulk at the thought of having a cheeky drink of a Sunday night, but with the Bank Holiday upon us, this is an attractive option. No more scanning the watch to see what time it is and trying to calculate how many hours you have before the dreaded sound of the alarm jolts you from your slumber. Not this weekend!
