This Roddy Doyle dialogue perfectly sums up ignorant attitudes to the refugee crisis

Roddy is spot on again

Carl Kinsella

Roddy rarely misses the mark.

Roddy Doyle is famous for writing stunning books such as The Commitments and The Van, but he has adapted seamlessly to the digital age by providing Facebook users with biting dialogues that address whatever topics are fuelling the day’s pub-chat.

Today, Mr. Doyle had his say on the kind of ignorance prevalent in today’s politics, particularly Sarah Palin’s comments that immigrants to the US should learn to ‘speak American’.

Many politicians in this day and age take a very grim view of immigration and our responsibility to the world’s refugees. The over-arching message of Roddy’s status is that we should be more generous to those who speak a different language – and that the language espoused by the likes of Palin and Trump is nothing but sh*te.

But we can’t do it justice, here’s the dialogue in full.roddy doyle 1

And that’s why he’s a hero.
