Buckfast

Know anyone that loves their Bucky?

It’s not uncommon to find that various films, people and events have their own universal day of celebration. For example, May 4th is celebrated by Star Wars fans and Ed Balls’ balls-up on Twitter has also become something of an event.

On this note, Buckfast drinkers will be pleased to know that the wine now has its own day and it’s being celebrated this May, all over the world.

The popular drink, made by the Benedictine Monks of Buckfast Abbey, will be drunk (and ate) all over Ireland on May 12th.

Apparently, World Buckfast Day has been up and running for four years now and a dedicated Facebook page has details on all the upcoming events for Buckfast lovers.

In Ireland there will be celebrations taking place at;

  • Betty Blacks, Bangor, Co.Down
  • The Goats Toe, Bangor, Co.Down
  • Filthys, Belfast,
  • Ryans Bar, Belfast
  • Cask, Cork
  • The Bernard Shaw, Dublin
  • Harbour House, Newcastle Co.Down
  • Annie’s, Omagh
  • JD Tiplers, Portadown
  • Cask, Cork
  • The Bernard Shaw, Dublin

if you happen to be living outside of Ireland, there’s also going to be events in Aberdeen, Ayia Napa, Belfast, Bristol, Cork, Dublin, Edinburgh, Glasgow, Western Australia, Ibiza, London, Liverpool, Manchester, Stirling and Sydney.

Of course, there’s Buckfast beer,Easter eggs, Christmas hampers, mojitos, sausage rolls and much more.

We’re starting to see why theBuckfast Abbey Trust took in £8.8 million for the financial year 2014-2015.

It truly is the nectar of the gods.
