The motorist is believed to have reacted to a hand gesture made by the cyclist who he subsequently knocked off his bike.
The motorist in question, Ashley Wallace-Merret, admitted dangerous driving, ABH (actual bodily harm) and common assault after a collision involving a cyclist in North Station Road in Colchester on May 13, 2016.
CCTV footage recorded from a dashcam of a vehicle travelling behind the motorist, released by Essex Police on Tuesday, captured him deliberately swerving into the cyclist and knocking him off his bike while travelling under a bridge.

It is believed that, immediately prior to the incident captured on camera, the cyclist made a gesture in the motorist’s direction after he braked heavily in the vicinity of where the cyclist and his friend were travelling.
Wallace-Merret was arrested on the day and appeared in court this week; he will be sentenced in February.
The cyclist did not suffer serious injuries as a result.
