Irish motorists reveal the smallest amount they’ve ever spent on fuel for their car

Not everyone fills the tank every time.

Just under one in three motorists in Ireland have spent as little as €5 on fuel for their car in a single visit, according to the Topaz Quality Fuels Index for 2016. 29% of motorists who took part in a survey for the Fuels Index revealed that they have spent €5 on fuel for their car on occasion, while just under half (46%) said that €10 was the least they ever spent on fuel in a single visit. Those figures were just a sample of some of the interesting findings from what is the second year of the Topaz Quality Fuels Index, in which it was revealed that 96% of Irish motorists want to reduce their impact on the environment by driving more efficiently on the country’s roads. Elsewhere, it emerged that just under seven in 10 Irish motorists wait until their fuel gauge is in the red before re-fuelling their car. If they get into bother through a lack of fuel on the road, 57% would ring a parent or guardian, while 17% would get straight onto the phone to AA Breakdown Assistance. In a statistic that suggests a little OCD amongst Irish drivers, meanwhile, 83% of survey respondents said that they fuel up to the nearest round number. 45% admitted that they didn’t know why they did it, with another 24% saying that it was through force of habit.
