The driver of the lorry was sentenced to 16 months in prison.

West Midlands Police in the United Kingdom released footage on Sunday of a motorway pile-up caused by the driver of a lorry who has been sentenced to 16 months in prison as a result.

The driver was sentenced to 16 months in prison last week for causing an accident on the M6 motorway that left a woman with broken ribs and fractures to her vertebrae.

Dashcam footage of the crash from the lorry and from a rearview camera in a nearby car shows the lorry ploughing into the back of a Volkswagen Polo at a speed in excess of 40 miles per hour in a 40miles per hour zone; the Polo subsequently hit a Toyota Verso that had also stopped in traffic in front of it.

The driver of the lorry, Mariusz Wlazlo, 47, told police. “I think I went to sleep for a moment. I can’t explain as I don’t remember. It was like a dream.”

West Midlands Police have warned that some viewers may be shocked by the footage.
