Can they jump? Can they throw bananas? Will they protect you against spikey shells? Well, no frankly, but other than that these are real life Mario Karts.
In order to mark the release of Mario Kart 7, Nintendo went to the guys in West Coast Customs (remember them from Pimp My Ride?) and asked them to build life-sized versions of the Italian plumber brothers car’s. They did and now, after being unveiled at the LA motor show, we have the pics.

Sadly, the cars don’t actually work, but they look unbelievably cool. Mario’s kart looks the biz, but Lugi’s is an absolute piece of art. Both cars were designed to fly and go underwater, although it would take a brave man to check if they actually can.
Nintendo plans to give both of the cars to two lucky Gamestop customers in the US the cars as bonuses for buying the new game.

Are these not the coolest things you’ve ever seen? All we wonder is how long before the ‘lucky customer’ manages to fit a 500hp engine in the little kart. Not too long, hopefully.

At least someone went to the effort of making the actual cars, unlike these lazy guys.
