Motorists shouldn’t need another warning, but they have one anyway.
A major mobile phone operation will be conducted by An Garda SĂochána in the coming days in an effort to clamp down on the number of motorists who use their phones while driving in Ireland.
It was revealed by An Garda SĂochána today that 28,000 drivers were detected using a mobile phone behind the wheel in 2015, an average of 76 a day.
Gardai have urged drivers to switch off before they drive off and have posted evidence today of the operation in action, with a number of drivers having already been caught in the act.

The offence of holding a mobile phone whilst driving carries a fixed charge notice penalty of 3 penalty points and €80 euro fine if paid within 28 days.
