Here are the 11 best movies on the TV today

Rory Cashin

Legitimately the best collection of movies we’ve seen in a long time.

Happy Pride Everyone! If you’re not out enjoying the parade, or not sitting in and watching the World Cup and/or Love Island, then maybe you’ll want to head to the cinema to get into some air-conditioning?

If so, then you can check out our reviews of this weekend’s new releases, including Dublin Oldschool, Sicario 2: Soldado, Adrift and Tag, right here:

If you’re sitting in and not doing any of the above, then there is a FANTASTIC collection of movies to choose from.

SATURDAY 30 JUNE

Titanic – Channel 4- 6.20pm

If you think you hate this movie, then you probably need to go back and rewatch it, because it is actually a genuine classic. A tad too sentimental, sure, but you can’t deny the grandeur of it.

Into The Woods – RTE One – 6.35pm

Meryl Streep, Johnny Depp, Anna Kendrick, Chris Pine, Emily Blunt and James Corden star in this very entertaining musical mish-mash take on Disney fairytales and folklore.

Commando – Film 4 – 9.00pm

“Remember when I said I’d kill you last?… I lied.”

The Bone Collector – Universal TV – 9.00pm

Denzel Washington is the genius quadriplegic detective who teams up with rookie Angelina Jolie to crack a new serial killer case.

Veronica Guerin – RTE One – 9.20pm

Cate Blanchett nails the accent in this riveting telling of the life of the Irish investigative journalist who ultimately uncovered so much within the crime world that she paid for it with her life.

Deep Blue Sea – Sky One – 10.00pm

The big smart sharks want to eat Sam Jackson and his mates. That really is all you need to know.

Rocky IV – UTV – 10.20pm

The one with Ivan Drago.

Green Room – Film 4 – 10.45pm

A group of rock musicians witness in a murder in the middle of their gig, in what turns out to be a White Power bar, and the lock themselves backstage trying to find a way out and survive. One of the most insanely tense thrillers of the last decade.

Changing Lanes – RTE One – 11.05pm

Ben Affleck and Sam Jackson star as two men involved in a harmless fender bender, but one that sends both of their lives in unimaginably bad directions over the course of the day, eventually pitting the two of them in a one-on-one war.

The Blair Witch Project – Sky One – 12.05am

You already know whether or not you like this film. Personally, we think this is one of the best horrors ever made. Others think it is a cheap way to cause motion sickness.

Blue Ruin – Film 4 – 12.35am

A man discovers that the killer of his family has been released from prison early, and takes it upon himself to right that wrong, even if it means taking down an entire gang to get to him. From the same director as Green Room, it is one of the best hidden gems you’ll ever see.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
