Rory Cashin

There are a lot of Tom Hardy movies on this weekend, for some reason…

Heading to the cinema, then check out our reviews on The Big Reviewski here for this week’s new releases, including A Quiet Place and Michael Inside…

Staying on the couch? Then we’ve got 14 movies for you to choose from!

Starting off with…

FRIDAY

American Pie – ITV2 – 21:00

“This one time, in band camp…”

The Bourne Ultimatum – RTE 2 – 21:35

The ultimate trilogy ender (at least until Jason Bourne arrived and ruined it all), with an incredible set piece involving a hugely destructive car chase through the streets of Manhattan.

Lawless – Channel 4 – 00:45

Tom Hardy, Shia LaBeouf and Jason Clarke play three bootleggers operating during Prohibition times, while government agent Guy Pearce hunts them down. A great period drama also staring Gary Oldman, Jessica Chastain and Dane DeHaan.

SATURDAY

Kindergarten Cop – RTE One – 13:10

“Who is your daddy? And what does he do?

X-Men – Film 4 – 19:00

The one where people finally took superhero moves seriously again, and essentially kicked off everything to do with Marvel and DC movies today.

Legend – Channel 4 – 21:00

Tom Hardy and Tom Hardy in the true life crime story of the Kray Twins, who more or less ran London in the 1960s. Also stars Emily Browning (Sucker Punch) as one of the Tom Hardy’s girlfriends, and Taron Egerton (Kingsman) as one of the Tom Hardy’s boyfriends.

X-Men 2 – Film 4 – 21:00

The bigger and better sequel. In case you were wondering, yes, the third X-Men is also on Film 4 that night, but it is not good and we don’t think you should watch it.

Get Up And Go – RTE Two – 21:15

Killian Scott and Peter Coonan play two best mates in this comedy-drama, who realise that their very comfortable friendship may be the exact thing that is stopping them both from progressing properly in life.

Two Lovers – TG4 – 21:45

Joaquin Phoenix and Gwyenth Paltrow star in this intense drama revolving around a man attempting to recover from a broken relationship by quickly getting involved with other women, one of which may be very damaging for him.

SUNDAY

How To Train Your Dragon – Film 4 – 14:50

One of the best animated movies of recent years, with a great voice cast – Gerard Butler, Jay Baruchel, Jonah Hill, Kristen Wiig, David Tennant, McLovin’, T.J. Miller – a great central premise. Plus now we all want a pet dragon!

The Green Mile – RTE One – 21:00

Tom Hanks and Stephen King and all of the emotions in this prison drama. Bring the hankies, cos this one is SAAAAAAAAAAAD.

Tinker Tailor Soldier Spy – Channel 4 – 23:00

Gary Oldman, Tom Hardy, Colin Firth, Mark Strong, Benedict Cumberbatch, Toby Jones, Ciaran Hinds and John Hurt star in this brilliant spy thriller, in which words are more dangerous and violent than any weapon could be.

The Skeleton Key – SyFy – 23:00

Kate Hudson is a nurse hired to assist on old-man in the back-swamps of the Bayou. However, once she gets there, she soon realises that there is a much darker reason she was invited. A great twist ending, and the plot will remind you of an earlier twist on a very recent popular Oscar-winning horror…

Sex, Lies & Videotape – Film 4 – 00:35

Steven Soderbergh’s first movie, involving unhappy couples, sexual desires, and a lot of videotape. Definitely easy to see the early groundwork of an absolute genius at work here.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
