Movies on TV

This lockdown ain’t going anywhere.

With the outside world pretty much off-limits, there’s never been a more excusable time to park yourself on the couch for the evening and watch some movies.

We’ve compiled the best of what’s on tonight (16 April), including a Coen Brothers classic and some vintage Bond.

Sing – ITV2 – 5.50PM

Not the first time this week this animated film about singing animals has been on, but we guarantee you that your kids won’t care.

Dumb and Dumberer: When Harry Met Lloyd – Comedy Central – 9pm

Times are hard. There is probably no better film to help you switch off your brain and laugh like the idiots on screen.

Live and Let Die – ITV4 – 8pm

An antique Bond movie from 1973, starring Roger Moore in his first appearance as 007.

Close Encounters of the Third Kind – Syfy – 10pm

Steven Spielberg’s alien drama.

Fargo – ITV4 – 10.35pm

How can you not love this film? A staged kidnapping involving Steve Buscemi goes badly wrong and a pregnant detective played by Frances McDormand is on the case. The Coen brothers at their best (or second-best, after No Country for Old Men).

Serenity – Horror Channel – 10.55pm

First of all, this is not a horror movie. Second of all, this is the film they released to tie everything up after Firefly got unfairly cancelled, making it one of the most important films ever (for nerds).

Pretty Woman – Channel 5 – 11.05pm

Julia Roberts plays a prostitute. It’s the second time its been on this week.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
