Season 2 of Derry Girls will be ‘bigger and crazier’ than the first one

Derry Girls Season 2

Season 2 is now filming and we’ve learned a few new details.

In a show that featured miraculous apparitions of ‘Big M,’ a nonagenarian nun that died while somebody was peeing in the corner, finding an IRA man in the car boot, and flaming shots that managed to burn down an entire chipper, you would struggle to think where Derry Girls could go next.

Thankfully, the brilliant mind of Lisa McGee has been frantically working because with Season 2 currently filming, the creator of the show has promised that our favourite Derry girls – and the wee English fella – are amping up their antics.

“It’s moving through the early stages of the Peace Process. In terms of the gang and what they get up to it’s just a bit bigger and crazier,” she said to Belfast Live.

McGee adds: “Some of the episodes are quite out there, some of the ideas, but they are much the same as well, they are still the losers who never get anything right and they always have a scheme on the go that never works out for them.”

The talented writer also said that Season 2 will be a “bit more hopeful” and that the episodes will be “coming out of the bad times” in Northern Ireland.

During a previous chat with JOE, Jamie-Lee O’Donnell (Michelle) gave us her take on what she’d love to see happen in Season 2 and whatever direction the show takes, there’s no need for us to wise up because we’re certain that it’s going to be a hit.

The show is expected to air in spring 2019.
