Cinema date?

Who knows the extent of the crap weather that's going to hit Ireland over the next few weeks but thank god that there's plenty of good films being released this month. Here's the best movies that are coming to Irish cinemas in January.

The Hateful Eight

Release date: January 8th Plot: Bounty hunters seek shelter from a raging blizzard and get caught up in a plot of betrayal and deception. Watch it because: It's Tarantino. Simple. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gnRbXn4-Yis

Creed

Release date: January 15th Plot: Rocky is back but not as we know him. The former World Heavyweight Champion serves as a trainer and mentor to Adonis Johnson, the son of his late friend and former rival Apollo Creed in this passing of the torch gloves film. Can the 'Italian Stallion' train the incredibly charismatic Michael B. Jordan to victory? Watch it because: It has a 93% rating already on Rotten Tomatoes and any fans of Friday Night Lights will know just how good an actor Michael B. Jordan is. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Uv554B7YHk4

The Revenant

Release date: January 15th Plot: In the 1820s, a frontiersman, Hugh Glass, sets out on a path of vengeance against those who left him for dead after a bear mauling. Watch it because: Iñárritu is one of the most striking filmmakers of the last decade, if you've seen Birdman, Amores Perros or Babel then you'll know just how good he is, but film fans will be watching for one reason. Is this the role that gets Leo the Oscar? https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LoebZZ8K5N0

Room

Release date: January 15th Plot: Jack is a young boy of 5 years old who has lived all his life in one room. He believes everything within it are the only real things in the world. But what will happen when his Ma suddenly tells him that there are other things outside of Room? Watch it because: If you've read the book then you'll have one burning question. How will the filmmaker manage to pull it off because it's such a unique and challenging idea. Room has been lavished with praise at nearly every film festival that it has played at which can only enhance its award winning credentials. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yfBdUPAjiVQ

The Big Short

Release date: January 22nd Plot: When four outsiders saw what the big banks, media and government refused to, the global collapse of the economy, they had an idea: The Big Short. Their bold investment leads them into the dark underbelly of modern banking where they must question everyone and everything. Watch it because: It arguably has the best cast of any film this month. Christian Bale, Brad Pitt, Ryan Gosling, Steve Carell, Melissa Leo, Karen Gillan, Selena Gomez, Marisa Tomei, Margot Robbie. If that's not enough then this drama/comedy is directed by Adam McKay - he of Anchorman, Step Brothers and The Other Guys fame. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=LWr8hbUkG9s

13 Hours

Release date: January 29th Plot: An American ambassador is killed during an attack at a U.S. compound in Libya as a security team struggles to make sense out of the chaos. Watch it because: It's Michael Bay so you know exactly what to expect. Guns, explosions, repeat. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4CJBuUwd0Os

Dirty Grandpa

Release date: January 29th Plot: Uptight lawyer Jason (Zac Efron) is one week away from marrying his boss's controlling daughter, putting him on the fast track for a partnership at his firm. Tricked by his grandfather Dick (Robert De Niro), Jason finds himself driving the foulmouthed old man to Daytona Beach for a wild spring break. Watch it because: When De Niro tries his hand at comedy he can be very good. Here's hoping for more of the same. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aZSzMIFZT7Q

Spotlight

Release date: January 29th Plot: The true story of how The Boston Globe uncovered the massive scandal of child molestation and cover-up within the local Catholic Archdiocese, shaking the entire Catholic Church to its core. Watch it because: Making A Murderer has us all gripped but this Golden Globe nominated drama could be the perfect film if you're still in need of a tale about corruption and scandal. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EwdCIpbTN5g
