Always Sunny joke that was a decade in the making has finally come true

Paul Moore

Always Sunny

Mac lives his dream.

Throughout the history of Always Sunny, fans of the show will know that dreams are dangerous things.

After all, Sweet Dee wanted to go to Hollywood and become an actress. To her credit, it looked like she had dry-heaved her way to the top of the comedy world and booked some meetings with with LA bigwigs.

Then we learned that it was all just one big elaborate hoax because Charlie, Mac, and Frank wanted to break Dee and get her to sink even lower.

Elsewhere, Frank always wanted to be reunited with Shadynasty and things didn’t work out. Charlie’s dream of dating the waitress turned into a bit of a domestic nightmare, and as for Mac, well, he has gone “from a tiny twink to the muscle-bound freak you see before you.”

In the show, Ronald McDonald (that name will always be funny) has constantly been in search of a father figure because his own dad, Luther, is a bit, well, psychotic.

However, Mac’s dreams of playing catch with Chase Utley have finally come true.

Cast your mind back to the Always Sunny episode that’s titled ‘The World Series Defence’. In the episode, we learn that Mac wrote a letter to Chase Utley of the Phillies baseball team.

“Dear Chase, I feel like I can call you Chase because you and me are so alike. I’d like to meet you one day, it would be great to have a catch. I know I can’t throw as fast as you but I think you’d be impressed with my speed,” wrote Mac.

It’s sad, it’s tragic, it actually worked.

On Friday night, the retired Utley was being honoured at Citizens Bank Park with his own night, and he was all set to throw the first pitch.

As for the recipient, how about his number one fan?

It seems that all that cultivated mass has finally paid off for Mac.

Take a look as Mac fulfils his dream.

Of course, this isn’t the first time that McElhenney and Ultey have exchanged pleasantries. He think the baseball great is one of the few people that will be able to drink for free at Paddy’s Pub.

As for the new season of the superb comedy, it’s already filming. We can’t wait!

Take a look.
