Amazon Prime Video has just added 13 very big movies to its library

Rory Cashin

Amazon Prime Video

Unlucky for some, but not for anyone with an Amazon Prime Video subscription…

Another eclectic mix of new additions to the Amazon Prime Video streaming library here, a baker’s dozen of movies to check out… or avoid… starting with:

8 MILE

Eminem basically stars as himself in this semi-autobiographical tale of the trials and tribulations of an up-and-coming rap star in Detroit.

APOLLO 13

Just because you might know how this ends, doesn’t make it any less tense. The true-life tale of the disastorous thirteenth Apollo mission, starring Tom Hanks, Kevin Bacon, Bill Paxton and Ed Harris.

BENDING ALL THE RULES

Bradley Cooper stars in this unconventional romantic drama, as one of the two potential love interests for a woman (Colleen Porch, no we’ve never heard of her either), who is finding it very difficult to choose between them.

HANNA

Saoirse Ronan stars in this dark action thriller about a teenage girl that has been trained to be a world-class killer, and she puts those skills to good use when her father (Eric Bana) suddenly goes missing.

THE HUNTSMAN: WINTER’S WAR

Charlize Theron, Emily Blunt, Chris Hemsworth and Jessica Chastain star in this prequel to the gritty Snow White movie. It… isn’t very good, but Theron and Blunt are having a ball with their absolute ham-off.

THE INVENTION OF LYING

What if nobody in the world could lie, or even knew what a lie was, except for you? That is the premise of this Ricky Gervais comedy with a tremendous supporting cast, which is actually pretty funny.

LIAR LIAR

And now for the exact opposite premise, with Jim Carrey as a lawyer who suddenly finds himself unable to do anything but tell the painful, blunt truth to everyone. Also pretty funny.

NANNY MCPHEE

Emma Thompson headlines this decent family movie, which has a lot of DNA in common with Mary Poppins.

OBLIVION

A very entertaining sci-fi action thriller, with Tom Cruise as literally the last man on Earth. From the same director as Top Gun Maverick, the action sequences and visuals here are pretty fantastic.

THE SON

This Amazon Prime Video exclusive has been marked already as one of this decade’s oddest misfires. From the same creative team behind 2020 Oscar-winner The Father, this Hugh Jackman-fronted drama is just plain bad.

SNOW WHITE & THE HUNTSMAN

Remember that gritty Snow White movie we mentioned above? Well, here it is! Better than its prequel, at least.

TRUMBO

Bryan Cranston stars in this biopic of a famed Hollywood screenwriter who was blacklisted when people began to suspect he had communist leanings.

WATERWORLD

Yes, it is Mad Max At Sea, and yes, it is still (wrongly) considered to be one of the biggest flops of all time, but this Kevin Costner action epic is actually pretty fun!
