At the time of writing, Aquaman has made over $1.21 billion at the worldwide box office.
It is officially the biggest hit from the DC universe (including any of Nolan's Dark Knight movies), so chances are you've seen it.
Normally whenever a movie seems to be doing exceptionally well, the film company will greenlight the sequel immediately, but despite being in cinemas since the middle of December, Warner Brothers and DC only confirmed that Aquaman 2 is in development this week.
This might have a lot to do with the rejigged Justice League set-up - remember, Ben Affleck is officially no longer Batman, and there is a question mark hanging over Henry Cavill returning as Superman - but they are still moving ahead with a Wonder Woman sequel, a Suicide Squad sequel, a standalone Joker movie, and a Harley Quinn spin-off movie, so... yeah. Confusion abounds.
Anyways, according to The Hollywood Reporter, so far the only confirmed names for the Aquaman sequel (outside of Momoa, we're presuming) is writer David Leslie Johnson-McGoldrick, who co-wrote the first movie, and James Wan, who directed the first movie, but is currently only signed on to produce the sequel.
Considering the amount of potential subplots left dangling from the first movie, there are a lot of loose ends for Arthur Curry and his watery mates to tie up.
However, on top of the news of the sequel, is the fact that it looks like there will be a horror spin-off from the movie, titled The Trench.
Wan will also produce this one (considering he is the guy behind The Conjuring, Annabelle, and Insidious, it makes sense he'd horror up this genre, too), and it will not feature any of the cast of Aquaman, taking place entirely within the terrifying kingdom of the Trench.
Again, you've probably already seen Aquaman, so you'll know that this sequence in the movie already stood out as a mini-horror movie set in the middle of a huge superhero movie, so focusing on this bit and making a full-length scary movie out of it seems like a fantastic idea.
