The movie is said to be starting production this week.

Having first been announced all the way back in 1990, Beetlejuice 2 has finally been given an official release date.

As reported in multiple outlets, Warner Bros. has announced that the sequel to the 1988 classic comedy horror fantasy helmed by Tim Burton will be out in cinemas in September of next year. The original Beetlejuice centred around two families – one living and one dead – in a house who find themselves terrorised by the title character (Michael Keaton), a devious and obnoxious ghost from the Netherworld.

Keaton is set to reprise his part as the iconic ghost in the follow-up, along with Winona Ryder – who played the gothy Lydia Deetz in the first movie. On top of this, Burton will also be back to direct.

Meanwhile, rising star Jenna Ortega has reportedly joined the cast of the follow-up to play the daughter of Lydia. This would reteam the 20-year-old actress with Burton following their work together on the smash hit Netflix series Wednesday.

In fact, Beetlejuice 2 looks like it will be a Wednesday reunion in more ways than one as the show’s creators, Alfred Gough and Miles Millar, are said to have penned the screenplay for the sequel.

Also reportedly part of the cast of the follow-up is Justin Theroux (The Leftovers) in a yet-to-be-announced role.

Plot details for Beetlejuice 2 are currently being kept under wraps. However, it has been stated that the movie is starting production today (Wednesday, 10 May) in the United Kingdom so you can expect more information in the coming months.

The finished film is set to arrive in cinemas on 6 September 2024.
