Here are the best films on TV today

The General is just one of many excellent titles.

The weather is great and we hope that you're all out enjoying it.

We're certain that those who are working over the weekend are not jealous at all that the rest of you get to sit outside and enjoy the sun.

Cough, cough.

Well, if you're looking to chill with a good film, we've got you sorted because there are some excellent titles on TV today.

Toy Story 2 - 17:00 on BBC 1

The new film is very good and the second adventure of Woody, Buzz and co. is still regarded as one of the greatest sequels ever. Can Kelsey Grammer provide a voice for everything? Please!

Madagascar 3: Europe's Most Wanted - 18:35 on RTÉ1

The escaped zoo animals continue their quest to get back to their New York home. Laughs, hijinks. You know the craic.

Kung Pow: Enter the Fist - 20:00 on SyFy

Absolutely bonkers spoof of the kung-fu genre. One of those cult films that are great to watch when you come back from the pub.

The General - 21:00 on RTÉ2

An outstanding fictionalised biopic of Dublin crimelord Martin Cahill. The role that really showed what Brendan Gleeson was capable of as an actor. Superb performance and still regarded as one of the greatest Irish films of all time.

Patriots Day - 21:00 on Channel 4

A timely reminder that when he wants to be, Mark Wahlberg is a very good actor. Peter Berg's drama on the Boston Marathon bombings is one of the strongest dramas in recent years that not enough people have seen.

Hunt for the Wilderpeople - 21:00 on Film4

Hands down, the funniest film of the decade. Taika Waititi and Ricky Baker are gods. We've loved this film right from the off.

If you've never seen it before, watch it.

In the Line of Fire - 21:00 on Sony Channel

Clint being Clint in this very Clint thriller about the last Secret Service agent remaining from the detail guarding John F. Kennedy in Dallas, Texas.

Jaws - 22:00 on ITV4

"You're gonna need a bigger boat."  The daddy of summer blockbusters.

Quarantine - 22:00 on SyFy

It was never going to be as good as REC, the Spanish film that it's based on. However, it's not the worst remake that Hollywood has done. It's grand.

The Nice Guys - 22:45 on ITV1

Not everyone loved it but those that did really loved it. Shane Black's buddy-cop thriller is worth watching just for the scene at the party.

An American Werewolf in London (1981) - 23:00 on True Movies

One word, transformation.

It's still a masterpiece of horror-comedy. If you have the channel on your viewing package, it's worth a watch.

The Witch - 23:05 on Film 4

Atmospheric, creepy, and tense, an excellent horror for those that appreciate a slow build, strong characters and a real sense of mood.

As for the plot, it revolves around a family who are subjected to strange forces when they are forced to live in exile.
