Here are the 7 best movies on the telly tonight

Rory Cashin

A very odd mix of movies on the box tonight, if we do say so ourselves…

Another full day of World Cup Matches today – Senegal V Colombia and Japan V Poland at 3pm, and then England V Belgium and Panama V Tunisia at 7pm – as well as another full night of Love Island goodness, with 12 new boys and girls being added to the romance compound tonight… There’s a lot to choose from tonight.

There’s also some decent stuff in the cinema, but our latest episode of The Big Reviewski reviews this weekend’s big cinema releases – Sicario 2, Tag, Adrift, and Dublin Oldschool – and you can check all those out right here:

If you are sitting in though, here are our pick of the pics for the night:

THURSDAY 28 JUNE

Snow White & The Huntsman – Film 4 – 6.30pm

Kristen Stewart is Snow White, Chris Hemsworth is The Huntsman, and Charlize Theron is the evil queen. Someone was clearly watching Game Of Thrones when they planned this adaptation, and there’s absolutely nothing wrong with that.

Two Weeks Notice – ITV2 – 7.10pm

Sandra Bullock plays the put-upon assistant to Hugh Grand’s billionaire industrialist, but when she decides to quit, he realises he’s actually been in love with her this whole time. A decent rom-com.

Parker – Channel 5 – 9.00pm

Jason Statham and Jennifer Lopez star in this action-heist movie from the director of the Oscar-winning Ray and the absolutely-not-Oscar-winning Devil’s Advocate. This movie is trash, but the kind of really enjoyable trash that zips by without any effort.

Green Hornet – Comedy Central – 9.00pm

Seth Rogen isn’t the first person who comes to mind when you think of someone playing a superhero, which is why it is actually his kung-fu master of an assistant Kato (played by Jay Chou) who is the real hero, letting the Hornet take all the credit. Not as bad as you’d heard, but not as good as a superhero movie from the director of Eternal Sunshine Of The Spotless Mind SHOULD have been.

Lone Survivor – Film 4 – 10.55pm

Based on the true story of a number of Navy SEALs – Mark Wahlberg, Taylor Kitsch, Emile Hirsch, Ben Foster – who are dropped into the middle of Taliban territory for a simple mission, only to discover the easy mission is nowhere near as easy as they’d been led to believe.

Rocky III – UTV – 10.55pm

The one with Mr. T and Hulk Hogan, and the first movie to use the ‘Eye Of The Tiger’ on the soundtrack, which actually went on to be nominated for Best Original Song, but lost to ‘Up Where We Belong’ from An Officer And A Gentleman. Loads of facts for you there!

The Lincoln Lawyer – Film 4 – 01.25am

The movie that kind of kicked off the McConaissance, as he plays an edgy lawyer who works out of the back of his car (hence the movie title), and gets caught up in a murder trial which… as often happens in movies… has more going on that it seems. Also stars Bryan Cranston, Marisa Tomei, Ryan Phillippe, William H. Macy, John Leguizamo, Michael Pena and Josh Lucas.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
