Here are the 5 best movies on TV this Wednesday

movies on tv tonight

For your viewing pleasure this evening…

… not a whole lot, if we’re being perfectly honest.

It was quite a struggle to find five movies that we could recommend with a reasonable degree of confidence, but if it’s any consolation, one of those five is up there with the best ever made.

Here goes…

Knight and Day – Film4 – 6.45pm

Not as the bad as trying-too-hard-to-be-clever title might suggest, but despite good showings from main stars Tom Cruise and Cameron Diaz, not great either.

Jaws 2 – ITV4 – 9pm

“It’s a different shark, Ted.”

Brassed Off – Film4 – 9pm

A very charming mid-’90s comedy about the struggles of a colliery brass band in a Yorkshire village following the closure of their pit.

Starring Pete Postlethwaite alongside a young Ewan McGregor, it’s perfectly acceptable Wednesday evening viewing.

The Strangers – SyFy – 10pm

Inspired by the infamous murder of Sharon Tate and three others by the Manson family, Liv Tyler and Scott Speedman play a couple whose stay at a secluded holiday home is interrupted by three masked hoodlums. It’s… alright.

Goodfellas – ITV4 – 11.25pm

Arguably Martin Scorsese’s best film and that is saying something. A stonewall classic.
