Featuring Matt Damon isolated in a land far away from home…

We made it folks, the end of another week.

And what better way to mark that milestone – even if it does seem fairly insignificant in the current climate – than by staying in and watching a movie?

Here’s the pick of the bunch on this Friday evening.

Home Alone 2: Lost in New York – Film4 – 6.40pm

Frankly, it should be a crime watching this movie any time before December, but if you absolutely need a Macaulay Culkin Christmas fix, you can have it this evening.

Casino Royale – ITV4 – 8pm

Daniel Craig’s first outing as 007 and a very solid outing at that.

The Martian – Film4 – 9pm

Matt Damon finds himself isolated in a land far away from home and does what he must do to survive.

We’re talking about Mars, of course, not Dalkey.

Taken – E4 – 9pm

“I will find you, I will kill you” etc. etc.

We’re The Millers – ITV2 – 9pm

A perfectly watchable comedy about a small-time pot dealer who enlists the services of a fake ‘family’ to help him smuggle drugs across the border from Mexico to the United States.

Jason Sudekis and Jennifer Aniston star.

Eddie the Eagle – RTÉ2 – 9.45pm

Taron Egerton takes on the role of Michael Edwards, AKA Eddie the Eagle, in the life story of the legendary British ski jumper.

Hugh Jackman and Christopher Walken feature amongst a sterling supporting cast in a heartwarming effort that is certainly worth a watch.

My Name is Emily – Virgin Media One – 10pm

Excellent Irish movie about a teenager’s attempt to free her father from a psychiatric institution with the help of a newly-acquired friend.

River of No Return – TG4 – 11.05pm

Robert Mitchum, Rory Calhoun and Marilyn Monroe star in this classic western from way back in 1954.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
