There is a lot on offer tonight.

Met Éireann has said there will be thunderstorms throughout most of the country this evening.

So, you have no excuse not to curl up on the sofa nice and warm this evening, with one of these offerings to keep you company as the weather rages outside.

American Made – Film Four – 9pm

Tom Cruise re-teams with the director of Edge of Tomorrow for this incredibly entertaining action-comedy based on a crazy true story.

Cruise plays an American pilot who is recruited by the CIA (represented by Irish star Domhnall Gleeson) in the 1980s for clandestine operations in Central and South America. His work eventually catches the attention of Pablo Escobar, for whom he begins to smuggle drugs and guns as well.

Pale Rider – ITV 4 – 9pm

Clint Eastwood directs and stars in this acclaimed Western about a mysterious preacher who protects a humble prospector village from a greedy mining company trying to encroach on their land.

The Naked Gun: From the Files of Police Squad! – Comedy Central – 9pm

In this hilarious spoof of police procedurals, an incompetent detective must foil an attempt to assassinate Queen Elizabeth II.

Leslie Nielsen stars in the film, so expect similar vibes to his other comedy classic, Airplane!

Last Man Standing – Turner Classic Movies – 9pm

A drifting gunslinger-for-hire (Bruce Willis) finds himself in the middle of an ongoing war between the Irish and Italian mafia in a Prohibition-era ghost town.

Adapted from Akira Kurosawa’s classic Yojimbo by US director Walter Hill (The Warriors), this underrated action flick also stars Christopher Walken and Bruce Dern.

The Snowman – RTÉ One – 9.35pm

Usually we recommend good films here but we will make an exception for The Snowman, a movie so bad it has to be seen to be believed. Based on Jo Nesbo’s bestseller, Michael Fassbender stars as a police inspector from Oslo investigating a string of grizzly deaths.

While the snowy setting is nice to look at, a nonsensical story and bizarre editing choices betray the fact that a rushed filming schedule meant 10 to 15% of the screenplay went unshot, according to its director.

Harold and Kumar Get the Munchies – Comedy Central – 10.45pm

Starring John Cho and Kal Penn as two stoners who, you guessed it, get the munchies – this is the first entry in the comedy franchise.

Layer Cake – Film Four – 11.15pm

Before he was Bond, Daniel Craig starred in this slick crime flick about a successful cocaine dealer who struggles to leave the drug business.

Executive Decision – ITV 4 – 11.20pm

A favourite of JOE’s, after terrorists seize control of an airliner, an intelligence analyst (Kurt Russell) accompanies a commando unit for a mid-air boarding operation.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
