movies on TV

It’s Thursday.

There’s a weather warning in place for the evening so you might as well kick back and indulge in some sweet, sweet movies on TV.

Here’s the pick of what’s on…

The Huntsman: Winter’s War – Film4 – 6.50pm

Dark fairy-tale action-adventure starring Chris Hemsworth, Jessica Chastain, Charlize Theron and Emily Blunt.

This should have been far better than it is.

A Star is Born – BBC Four – 8pm

No, not that one. This is the Judy Garland version but it’s actually got a higher rating on Rotten Tomatoes than the latest remake with Lady Gaga and Bradley Cooper.

Sicario – Film4 – 9pm

Emily Blunt, Benicio del Toro and Josh Brolin attempt a covert mission to take down a vicious Mexican cartel.

While it’s labelled as an action/thriller, it flirts obsessively with becoming a horror film.

Kick-Ass – Comedy Central – 9pm

Aaron Taylor-Johnson, Chloe Grace Moretz, Christopher Mintz-Plasse and Jim Carrey star in this movie that might look like it’s for kids, but it is definitely not for kids.

A comic book geek sets out to be a superhero and teams up with a crime-fighting father/daughter vigilante team of Big Daddy and Hit Girl.

Cold Skin – Film4 – 11.25pm

A man sets off for a job on a barren island near Antarctica but when he arrives, he finds no trace of the man he was sent to replace.

He discovers the abode has been outfitted as if for war, with what seem to be defensive spikes to ward off hoards of attackers.

But of course he pays no attention to this until night falls and it all begins.

LISTEN: You Must Be Jokin’ with Aideen McQueen – Faith healers, Coolock craic and Gigging as Gaeilge
