The top five episodes of The Simpsons

Although the curtain should probably have come down on it long ago, The Simpsons remains one of the best and most culturally significant TV shows of the last 30 years.

The fact that its golden era came to an end before the turn of the millennium has done nothing to stop its enduring popularity amongst fans old and new, as is evident in the appeal of modern-day fan accounts such as Ireland Simpsons Fans and Simpsons Quote of the Day (Simpsons QOTD).

The latter has been posting daily quotes from the show’s glory years for over seven years now and has racked up a little short of 550,000 followers on Twitter in the process, impressive and perfectly cromulent numbers in any language.

We couldn’t think of anyone better than Charlie Southern, the curator of the account, to discuss the best episodes in the show’s history, a debate that has arisen amongst fans of the show again after the entire catalogue was made available on Disney’s new streaming service, Disney+.

Perhaps not surprisingly, Charlie’s selections are all episodes from Seasons 3-6; check out the top five and a video of Charlie explaining his selections in the video below.

Top 5 Simpsons episodes, as selected by Simpsons QOTD

  1. Homer Badman (Season 6, Episode 9)
  2. Last Exit to Springfield (Season 4, Episode 17)
  3. Radio Bart (Season 3 Episode 13)
  4. Homer’s Barbershop Quartet (Season 5, Episode 1)
  5. Sideshow Bob Roberts (Season 6, Episode 5)
