There is a surprising cameo in the first episode of The Book of Boba Fett

Rory Cashin

The new Star Wars series kicked off on Disney+ today.

Famous people love appearing in the Star Wars universe.

Daniel Craig and Tom Hardy reportedly both popped up as background characters during the recent big screen trilogy, while everyone from Bill Burr to Taika Waititi appeared over the two seasons of The Mandalorian.

And so, with the arrival of the first episode of The Book of Boba Fett on Disney+ today (Wednesday, 29 December), more cameos should be expected, and are delivered upon.

Robert Rodriguez himself, the director of the episodes (and also of big blockbuster movies like Alita Battle Angel and Sin City) can be spotted in the throng of the cantina, while Flashdance’s own Jennifer Beals appears as Twi’lek, the hostess of one of Tatooine’s hottest hot spots (although under the heat of two suns, they’re all pretty hot).

However, eagle-eared listeners may pick up on another surprise cameo, one that is only fully revealed during the episode’s end credits.

The Toast of London himself (and soon to be the Toast of Tinseltown), Matt Berry provides his dulcet tones to the droid 8D8, introducing the locals to Boba Fett and Fennec Shand, the new rulers of Tattoine.

We should probably expect the What We Do In The Shadows star to continue to pop up throughout the rest of the series, as well as many other cameos and potentially famous callbacks – the episode does kick off with Fett escaping his supposed fate from the end of Return of the Jedi, after all.

New episodes of The Book of Boba Fett will arrive every Wednesday on Disney+ until 9 February.
