The John Michael McDonagh masterpiece featured pretty highly on the very prestigious list.

Empire Magazine has released its Top 50 Movies of 2014 and fans of Irish cinema will be happy to see some of our own making it on to this prestigious list. At a very respectable position of number 16 comes the Brendan Gleeson-led Calvary. The movie, also starring Chris O’Dowd, Kelly Reilly, Aidan Gillen and Dylan Moran was highly praised by Empire and has been tipped for some Oscar nominations when they'll be revealed next month. frank There was plenty of other Irish interest in the list as the Lenny Abrahamson film, Frank, starring Michael Fassbender and Domhnall Gleeson, made it into number 34 and to complete the hat-trick, coming in at number 25 was the Northern Irish thriller, 71. Rather than spoil the list for you, we'll let you read it for yourself over here, although we will say that regular cinema-goers probably won't be too surprised by the top five.
