Check out the brilliant trailer for new Irish comedy The Stag

'Further away! Further Away! Jesus!'

Eoghan Doherty

How do you say ‘The Hangover’ in Irish? The Stag. That’s how.

Not really though, and our old Irish teacher Mr. Ó Murchú would have a heart attack if we thought that was actually true.

The Stag is a new, very funny-looking, Irish film that has just secured a Spring 2014 release date with Dublin’s Treasure Entertainment and Arrow Film Distributors. And trust us, even from this short clip alone, it already looks miles better than that over-rated Mike Tyson tiger-obsessed 2009 film.

According to a report on the Irish Film and Television Network, The Stag tells the tale of a groom-to-be who reluctantly agrees to a camping stag weekend in the West of Ireland. Events don’t go quite according to plan though when the unpredictable brother of the bride, The Machine, turns up.

Remember Stags, what happens in the Wesht, stays in the Wesht.

Directed by the very talented John Butler, The Stag has a great line-up of Irish talent including the lovely Amy Huberman, Hugh O’Conor, Peter McDonald and Brian ‘I swear I’m not Brendan’ Gleeson.

What we’re most worried about though here at JOE is the casting of Sherlock’s archenemy Andrew Scott as a seemingly harmless best friend. After his superb stint as Moriarty in the excellent BBC television series, the man terrifies us. Absolutely terrifies us.

Check out the trailer below which features a lot of naked Irish men, in the middle of a forest, at night-time, imitating Emperor penguins.

Sounds like they’ve recreated an Irish Stag perfectly if you ask us…

The Stag will have its world premiere in the Discovery section of the Toronto International Film Festival (8th – 18th September) and is scheduled for release in Spring of 2014.
