Our TV movie pick for tonight (Tuesday, 25 November) is Chopper, the incredible 2000 crime thriller starring Eric Bana (Hulk, Munich).
Hailing from Australia, the film is based on the life of the country's infamous criminal Mark 'Chopper' Read (played by Bana), who wrote his autobiography while in prison.
The resulting movie, from which the film is partly based, was a best-seller.
"America had Al Capone; England, the Kray brothers and Australia has Mark 'Chopper' Read," the plot synopsis for the thriller reads.
"Chopper is inspired by the books of Mark Brandon 'Chopper' Read, arguably Australia's most infamous former criminal.
"Chopper draws on police records, court transcripts, news coverage and interviews with people who knew Chopper Read."
Thanks to Bana's raw star-making performance, the stylish direction from Andrew Dominik (The Assassination of Jesse James, Blonde, Killing Them Softly), the film's dark comedy, and its fascinating portrayal of Read, Chopper has gone on to garner a cult following.
It is now considered by many to be one of the best crime thrillers of the 21st century.
Chopper is airing on TV tonight/tomorrow morning on Film4 at 1.35am. The movie is also available to rent on Apple TV for just €1.99.
