Chris Rock finally makes jokes about Will Smith’s Oscar slap

“I got my hearing back.”

Chris Rock has joked about the now-infamous Will Smith slap in a recent show in California.

At the Oscars on March 27, Will Smith slapped Rock on stage after he joked about Jada Pinkett Smith’s shaved head, saying he couldn’t wait to see her in the sequel to G.I Jane.

Pinkett Smith suffers from alopecia, a genetic condition that causes hair loss and something she has been open about living with.

Rock was performing at Fantasy Springs on Friday night (April 8), just hours after the Academy announced it would be banning Smith from the Oscars for the next decade.

According to the Californian newspaper, Desert Sun, the comedian said: “I’m OK, I have a whole show and I’m not talking about that [the Will Smith incident] until I get paid.

“Life is good. I got my hearing back,” he joked.

Attendees of the show were apparently not allowed to use mobile phones during the show and were given locking pouches for them to put their devices in.

This is not the first show the comic has done since the Oscars, with Rock receiving a standing ovation at a show in Boston just days after the incident. He told the crowd that he was “still processing” what had happened.

Ticket sales for his Ego Death tour have also rocketed since the Academy Awards, but fans shouldn’t expect many references to the incident.

He told the Boston crowd: “I don’t have a bunch of sh*t about what happened, so if you came to hear that, I have a whole show I wrote before this weekend.”

He added: “At some point, I’ll talk about that shit. And it will be serious and funny.”
