2022’s most F’d up movie & 10 more movies and shows to watch this weekend

Chris Hemsworth, Saoirse Ronan, Kristen Stewart, Tom Hanks and loads more feature in this week’s new arrivals.

This week contains the now-annual celebration known as Disney+ Day, in which the streaming service drops a HUGE amount of new content into their library.

We’ve picked out the highlights from those additions, but before we get to the stuff at home, here are the movies which will all be available to watch around Ireland from Friday, 9 September…

SEE HOW THEY RUN

Saoirse Ronan and Sam Rockwell headline this comedic murder-mystery, which happens to be set on the stage of a big whodunnit in London’s West End. We chatted with Saoirse herself about her role in the new movie, and you can check out that interview right here:

BODIES BODIES BODIES

A darkly comedic horror about a group of friends who take shelter in their rich friend’s mansion during a hurricane. After a few hours of booze and drugs, one of their party games takes a turn for the worse, and one of the partiers winds up dead. But which one of them is the killer?

CRIMES OF THE FUTURE

Horror maestro David Cronenberg returns to the genre with a bang, bringing along Viggo Mortensen, Kirsten Stewart and Léa Seydoux, set in a world of performance art where audiences arrive to watch live surgeries performed.

If none of those tickle your fancy, then here is all of the stuff you can watch at home this weekend, starting with…

THOR: LOVE AND THUNDER

The fourth solo Thor movie arrives on the streaming service at the start of the month, joined by Natalie Portman, Christian Bale and Tessa Thompson. We chatted to the movie’s director, co-writer and star Taika Waititi about the project right below.

PINOCCHIO

Not to be confused with Netflix’s adaptation from Guillermo Del Toro, this one comes from Robert Zemeckis (Back To The Future, Cast Away), and it stars Tom Hanks, Luke Evans, Cynthia Erivo, with Joseph Gordon-Levitt voicing Jiminy Cricket.

WEDDING SEASON

Fronted by Irish actor Gavin Drea, this murder-mystery about a wedding in which everyone but the bride (Rosa Salazar) is killed, with her lover (Drea) being the primary suspect.

MIKE

A dramatised series telling the life of Mike Tyson (here played by Moonlight star Trevante Rhodes), exploring the wild, tragic and controversial life and career of the heavyweight champion.

The series is available on Disney+ right now.

MUNICH GAMES

This gritty six-part thriller series is set during the lead-up to a friendly match between an Israeli and German football team, scheduled to take place on the 50th anniversary of the 1972 terrorist attack in Munich. However, a Mossad agent stationed in Berlin intercepts a message that reveals another attack is in the works, and he is partnered with a German agent to get to the bottom of it.

All six episodes are available to watch with a NOW Entertainment Membership from Friday, 9 September.

COBRA KAI SEASON 5

This show’s particular brand of much-loved nostalgia continues on strongly, with even more beloved characters returning to help out with the fallout of last season’s All Valley Tournament.

All episodes of the new season arrive on Netflix on Friday, 9 September.

GUTSY

Hillary and Chelsea Clinton interview some of the most-famous women in the world – including Kim Kardashian, Megan Thee Stallion, Dr. Jane Goodall, Gloria Steinem, Wanda Sykes, Amy Schumer, Goldie Hawn, Kate Hudson and many more – to ask them how they stay gutsy in today’s world.

All eight episodes arrive on Apple TV+ on Friday, 9 September.
