The creator of Mr. Robot is rumoured to be working on a big Star Wars movie

Rory Cashin

First of all, have you been watching Mr. Robot?

If not, get on that immediately, as you’ve been missing out on two seasons of some of the best made, most intense television happening today. We went into full detail as to why it is brilliant right here.

Now, secondly, according to numerous rumours from very believable sources, the higher-ups at Disney and LucasFilm have been chin-wagging with Mr. Robot’s creator Sam Esmail about working on a future Star Wars anthology movie.

And not just any anthology movie: the Obi-Wan Kenobi movie.

Set to be released sometime after Star Wars Episode IX, rumour has it that Esmail will be writing the script that tells the story of what went on with Master Kenobi between the events that ended Episode III: Revenge Of The Sith and things kicking off again at that start of Episode IV: A New Hope.

There has been a lot of groundswell – and some very public declarations by Ewan McGregor – to get the character back on the big screen, and the rumour goes so far as to say that they might give Esmail the directing gig as well, as he’s got 25 episodes of his show under his director’s belt already.

Another rumour is that Esmail might be given the Boba Fett spin-off instead, which was once lined up for writer/director Josh Trank before his reboot of Fantastic Four flopped so hard it could be heard around the world.

Giving a franchise like this to the guy behind one of the maddest, most inventive shows on TV is … well, its kinda like that time they almost gave Return Of The Jedi to the guy behind Twin Peaks. (True story.)

Head of LucasFilm Kathleen Kennedy has stated that there is going to be a major announcement about the Star Wars universe coming this summer – probably at ComicCon this July – so it might be confirmed before long.

Until then we’ve still got Season 3 of Mr. Robot due this October, while Episode VIII: The Last Jedi is due December, followed by the Han Solo spin-off in May 2018 and Episode IX in May 2019.

And if this means we get to see Christian Slater in a Star Wars movie… just tell us what we need to do to make that happen!
