Dave McSavage has a dig at the Rubberbandits and the ‘terrible’ comedies commissioned by RTE

The comedian is also facing a court date after refusing to pay his TV licence fee.

The TV licence inspector must have faced an awful grilling when they visited the house of comedian Dave McSavage because The Savage Eye star has admitted that he’s willing to go to court rather than pay for RTE’s “terrible comedy”.

As reported by The Sun, McSavage states that he’s refusing to pay his TV licence on the grounds that RTE has a terrible taste in comedy. The national broadcaster turned down his own Savage Eye 1916 special in favour of commissioning shows from the Rubberbandits and Irish Pictorial Weekly.

“RTE didn’t commission my Savage Eye special because they were too scared and we might have done something funny. Instead they hired Irish Pictorial Weekly to do a 1916 which ended up being derivative of the Savage Eye, it was awful”.

McSavage then had a pop at The Rubberbandits by saying that they’re “now as mainstream as Ryan Tubridy” and that “they used to be quirky and bent, but I thought that their 1916 special was awful”.

The comedian has also been summoned to appear at the Four Courts on April 22nd after failing to pay his license because in his view, “their (RTE’s) output is appalling and they have no respect or passion for the craft of comedy”.
