Dermot Bannon Room to Improve new season

“We’ve given ourselves a couple of months breathing space.”

Hit renovation reality show Room to Improve won’t be returning to our screens for a little while longer, according to host Dermot Bannon.

Speaking to RTÉ, Bannon noted that the show won’t meet its planned January deadline, while urging fans not to panic.

“It’s been pushed back by a couple of months”, Bannon confirmed.

“To do the projects that we want to do, because every year we want to make the show better and we want to do more complex things, so in order to facilitate that, we’ve given ourselves a couple of months breathing space,” he added.

Bannon said that filming has been “an exciting and stressful time” as producers attempt to give the audience a series of home makeovers that they’ve never seen before.

“They’re very different,” he said.

“We spent a good bit of time selecting projects this year just to make sure we were giving the audience something they hadn’t seen before. We’ve got a really good mix this year so I’m excited.”

Room to Improve was a huge hit last season, with Daniel O’Donnell’s appearance resulting in a record breaking audience of 722,000 viewers.

As for what to expect in 2019, Bannon will put his money where his mouth is by featuring his very own renovation on the show, having recently sold his Drumcondra home for €600,000.
