Gwan Derry Girls…

Lisa McGee’s beloved Channel 4 comedy has made it all the way to the Radio Times Comedy Champion 2018 Final.

There have already been very tense scenes as the show, whose first season aired earlier this year, edged past its fellow Irish comedy The Young Offenders in the semi-final (with some greasing of the wheels by Derry Girls’ star Nicola Coughlan).

Now Derry Girls is up against BBC’s comedy Inside No 9 which has form in competitions like these. It has previously been voted “Best TV Comedy Drama” in 2014, 2015, 2016, and 2017, and was named “Comedy of the Year” in 2017.

Now the time has come for us to our bit for our country and vote for Derry Girls. Partly because we already promised Lisa McGee that we would, but much more so because it’s the funniest Irish comedy we’ve had the pleasure of watching in years.

As of Monday afternoon, the poll is a deadlocked 50-50 heat, but there’s plenty of time to go. The poll will remain open until 10pm Ireland time on Tuesday July 31.

You can vote here.
