The 9 must-watch new (and old) arrivals coming to Disney+ in August

Two new Star Wars projects, two new Marvel projects, and a new Predator movie! And that is only half the list!

A bumper month of stuff arriving on Disney+ throughout August, so let us get right into it, shall we…?

UPDATE: The original version of this story had new Star Wars series Andor listed as one of the releases, but Disney subsequently pushed the release of that show back to 21 September.

Lightyear – 3 August

The movie that young Andy saw that made him become such a huge Buzz Lightyear fan. This sees the actual character of Buzz (voiced by Chris Evans) on his intergalactic mission, which sees him stranded on an alien planet with no clear way off.

Prey – 5 August

This prequel to the Predator movies is set 300 years ago, in the depths of Comanche land, as a young warrior (Amber Mindthunder) attempts to be taken seriously as a hunter for her people, right around the same time that a fearsome creature from the stars has landed nearby…

Lego Star Wars Summer Vacation – 5 August

This animated special features the voice work of Weird Al Yankovic, Yvette Nicole Brown, Kelly Marie Tran, Anthony Daniels and Billy Dee Williams telling the story of Finn, Poe, Rey and more heading off on a holiday together.

I Am Groot – 10 August

A collection of five short films, with Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper reprising their voice roles as Groot and Rocket, respectively. We’ll see young Groot take off on adventures around the galaxy, meeting new wacky characters along the way.

All five episodes will be available on Wednesday, 10 August.

Once Upon A Time In America – 12 August

Frequently named one of the very best movies of all time, Sergio Leone’s 1984 epic crime saga features Robert De Niro, James Woods and Joe Pesci, detailing the young lives of best friends who rise to prominence as Jewish gangsters in New York.

Heat – 12 August

Robert De Niro is the ultimate bank robber and Al Pacino is the cop-on-the-edge determined to catch him in Michael Mann’s tremendously slick crime thriller.

She-Hulk: Attorney At Law – 17 August

Tatiana Maslany stars as Jennifer Walters, aka the cousin of Bruce Banner (Mark Ruffalo), who receives a blood transfusion from him and finds herself having to juggle her day job as an attorney, and the rest of her life as a 6-foot-7 green superhero. Tim Roth is back as Emil Blonsky/Abomination, Benedict Wong as Wong (who dealt with Blonsky in Shang-Chi), as is Charlie Cox as Matt Murdock/Daredevil.

The first episode arrives on Wednesday, 17 August, with the rest of the series arriving weekly after that.

Welcome To Wrexham – 25 August

A new docuseries which follows Hollywood stars Ryan Reynolds and Rob McElhenney as they decide to buy Welsh football club Wrexham A.F.C.

The first two episodes arrive on Wednesday, 24 August, with the rest of the series arriving weekly after that.

Love and Other Drugs – 26 August

Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway star in this rom-com-dram about a somewhat sleazy pharmaceutical salesman who begins a relationship with a young woman who is suffering from an illness that will lead to Parkinson’s disease.
