“Don’t be scarlet!” – The stars of Dublin Oldschool give some great advice to Irish filmmakers

Rory Cashin

How was the wrap party? “It was delightful, we were all home by 11, with a mug of Ovaltine.”

The movie on everyone’s lips this week is Dublin Oldschool, which is quite the achievement considering that it is being dropped right in the middle of summer blockbuster season, and this Irish movie stars relative unknowns, and is a comedy based on some very heavy subject matters.

In the lead up to the movie hitting cinemas, we were lucky enough to sit down with the stars of the movie, Ian Lloyd Anderson and Emmet Kirwan (who also doubled as the movie’s co-writer), to chat about their part in the new movie.

But we also chatted as to where Dublin Oldschool fits into the overall Irish movie scene, one which seems to be growing and growing exponentially, getting more and more international attention.

Emmet and Ian also gave their best advice to other Irish actors and filmmakers out there, and it is the most common sense, basic, and yet genius advice anyone could give.

Dublin Oldschool is release in cinemas on Friday 29 June, and we fully recommend you check it out. We’ll be reviewing it in full on the next episode of The Big Reviewski, out on Thursday 28 June, and we recommend you check that out, too.
