JOE has an exclusive look at the trailer for the new Irish movie King of the Travellers for you, and we also got a few words from director Mark O’Connor about this hugely exciting new film.

Set in the travelling community, the movie tells the story of John Paul Moorehouse, who’s trying to get revenge for his father’s death, and in the process, reignites an old feud between his family and the Power family.

His situation gets further complicated when he falls for Winnie, the daughter of the Puc Power, the man who he’s convinced has killed his father.

Director Mark O’Connor’s cast is an interesting mix of experienced actors and new talent, starring Peter Coonan (Love/Hate), Michael Collins (Man About Dog), newcomer John Connors, and non-actors from the travelling community.

O’Connor said that “It was a big risk casting traveller non-actors in the film, but I felt it was necessary to give the film real authenticity. It’s very exciting to be able to showcase the film to the Irish public in cinemas.”

The soundtrack features tracks from hugely talented singer songwriter Damien Dempsey, and judging by the trailer, it’ll have plenty of action and drama to boot, which has seen it described as a “Gaelic Godfather”. Sounds good to us!
