First look at the new psychological thriller series The Deceived, starring Paul Mescal

Alan Loughnane

The Deceived

Full of rising stars.

If you could pick one up and coming actor to feature in a new TV series right now, the chances are you would pick Paul Mescal.

The Kildare man’s star has never been higher following the runaway success of Normal People and, indeed, Mescal’s outstanding performance in the series.

Then when you add Emmet Scanlon into the mix, you’ve got a winning combination of Irish actors.

Hmmm, anything else you would want from a new series?

Well, you’d want a great writer. Step forward Derry Girls creator Lisa McGee, who created the series along with her husband Tobias Beer.

Speaking to JOE last year, McGee said: “It’s very, very different from Derry Girls.

The Deceived tells the story of a young Cambridge student who falls in love with her Irish lecturer.

She follows him to Donegal, where a tragic and suspicious death takes place, and she starts to doubt everything she knew about him and her own mind.

The four part series is due to air on Channel 5 and Virgin Media in Ireland, although there’s no confirmed dates for the premier just yet.
