Saved By The Bell actor Dustin Diamond has been sent to prison for four months after a bar-room stabbing in Wisconsin.

The man who played 'Screech' was also sentenced to 15 months of probation and has been ordered to report to jail on Sunday. Diamond was convicted earlier in June on two misdemeanour counts that stemmed from a fight on Christmas Day. The 38-year-old left the courtroom without commenting. The judge said that the sentence, "has to send a message to the community that we’re just not going to live like this." After a three-day jury trial last month, Diamond was cleared of a felony charge but found guilty of carrying a concealed weapon and disorderly conduct. "I sincerely apologise to everyone involved," Diamond said at the hearing on Thursday. "This was the single most terrifying experience of my life … This is all I’ve been able to think about for the last six months."
