Formula One legend Niki Lauda talks about new F1 feature film Rush

The champion talks Hollywood, Hunt and heady nights out.

Eoghan Doherty

Niki Lauda, the Austrian Formula 1 driver who’s incredible true story inspired the movie Rush, sat down recently to give his thoughts on the upcoming feature film.

Rush, directed by Ron Howard and written by Peter Morgan, examines the now legendary rivalry that existed between F1 champions Lauda and English driver-cum-playboy James Hunt (Chris Hemsworth).

In the interview below, Lauda talks about the strange experience of having an actor (Daniel Brühl) portray his own life on the big screen, how he wasn’t quite as conservative as people may think he was and, most importantly, how he and and Hunt would most definitely be having the craic together (and a big piss up) if the English daredevil was still alive today.

Enjoy:

Rush is released in Irish cinemas on 13 September and it’s class so go and see it.
