The cult classic will be getting a long-awaited sequel later in the year.
Good Burger, everyone’s favourite movie when they were a kid, has just been added to Netflix.
Released in 1997, the comedy was a spin-off of the Nickelodeon sketch comedy series All That. It follows two teenagers (played by Kenan Thompson and Kel Mitchell) who try to save the burger joint they work for from failing after a competing restaurant opens across the street.
While the film received mixed reviews from critics, it was a box office hit and has gone on to develop a devoted fan base. This is in particular with millennials who grew up with the movie, All That, and Thompson and Mitchell’s other hit Nickelodeon show Kenan & Kel.
The comedy’s addition to Netflix also comes at a particularly perfect time as a sequel to Good Burger is set to arrive later in 2023.
A still from the original Good Burger
There had been rumours of a potential follow-up being in the works for years. However, it was only during an appearance on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon back in March that Thompson and Mitchell confirmed that the sequel had been given the green light.
“Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to Good Burger, home of the good burger. Part two,” Mitchell told the programme, referencing his character’s catchphrase from the comedy.
The follow-up was shot this summer and a plot synopsis for the upcoming movie reads:
“Dexter Reed (Thompson) is down on his luck after another one of his inventions fails. Ed (Mitchell) welcomes Dex back to Good Burger with open arms and gives him his old job back. With a new crew working at Good Burger, Dex devises a plan to get back on his feet but unfortunately puts the fate of Good Burger at risk once again.”
The original Good Burger is streaming on Netflix in Ireland and the UK right now. Good Burger 2 is set for a November release via Paramount+.
