Amble have their first Irish No 1 single with The Swell

The Swell has taken Amble to the top of the charts

The achievement brings Sam Fender and Olivia Dean’s Rein Me In’s lengthy chart reign to an end. 

The track had remained at the top for 11 consecutive weeks and had spent 18 weeks at No. 1 overall. That puts it level with Bill Whelan’s Riverdance, which also spent 18 weeks at the summit, making them the joint longest-running No. 1 singles in Irish chart history.

Amble’s debut album went straight to No. 1

For Amble, the success marks another huge moment in what has been a rapid rise for the group. 

Robbie Cunningham from Leitrim leads the trio on vocals and guitar, alongside Longford’s Ross McNerney, who plays mandolin, bouzouki and banjo, and Sligo’s Oisín McCaffrey on guitar. The three musicians came together in 2022 after leaving their regular jobs to pursue music full-time.

Their breakthrough continued with the release of their debut album Reverie in May 2025. 

It went straight to the top of the album charts and became the most-streamed Irish album of the year. It has also remained inside the Albums Top 10 ever since, currently sitting at No. 3.

The group's international breakthrough has been impossible to miss

They have picked up two RTÉ Choice Music Prize awards, taking home Single of the Year for Schoolyard Days and Breakthrough Artist of the Year. 

Their momentum was further underlined when they sold out three consecutive shows at Dublin’s 3Arena towards the end of 2025.

Since then, the trio have continued expanding their international profile. 

In 2026, they earned a mainstage headline slot at Electric Picnic in Stradbally, made their debut at Nashville’s legendary Grand Ole Opry and performed at Bonnaroo in Tennessee. They have also joined Ed Sheeran and Dermot Kennedy as support acts for stadium shows.

Now, with The Swell at No. 1, Amble have added their first Irish singles chart-topper to an already impressive list of achievements.
