In the first two episodes of Loki, we've been introduced to Judge Ravonna Renslayer, and we can see that she is a smart, commanding, capable person (if she even can be described as a person...), with a potentially interesting history with Mobius M. Mobius.
The scenes between Renslayer (Gugu Mbatha-Raw) and Mobius (Owen Wilson) have been very playful, even if Renslayer is always quick to remind Mobius that she is very much in charge of this (and what feels like every) situation.
However, following the catastrophic events at the end of the second episode, where the apparent Lady Loki has dropped bombs all across the Sacred Timeline, we see that Renslayer is no longer going to sit back and watch these events play out from a distance.
When Renslayer grabs that time-stick in her office, we know that some serious shit must be going down, and it is properly time to worry about, well, the future of the entire universe as we know it.
In the run-up to the release of the second episode, we had the chance to sit down and chat (via Zoom) with Mbatha-Raw, and you can check out that full interview right here:
Between the talk of NDAs and Tom Hiddleston teaching Asgardian dialect, we had to know about Renslayer's actions at the end of that second episode, and what it could mean for the future of the character in the rest of the series.
Mbatha-Raw told us the following:
"Yeah, I mean, not to spoil it, but I think we have established that Renslayer has a military background. She started as a hunter, like B-15, Wunmi [Mosaku's] character. That was her training, so she has that muscle memory, y'know? She knows how to wield a time-stick.
"So when she grabs it at the end of that episode, you're absolutely right. That means that things are really bad, y'know? Because she is of such a high status, she doesn't really have to get her hands dirty anymore, unless the stakes are really high. So, yeah, I think you'll have to watch deeper into the show to see how Renslayer gets into the action, but I'm excited for people to see it."
