G’wan the lads! Turns out The Young Offenders TV show is already a huge hit

Rory Cashin

We have another home-grown hit on our hands.

While we have to wait until 9.30pm on Thursday 8 February to get our eyes on the first episode of the new Young Offenders TV show, UK fans have had early access to the show.

The first episode premiered on BBC Three this week, and it has already proved to be a massive hit over there.

In fact, a member of The Young Offenders team spoke exclusively to JOE, and told us that the BBC Three most viewed shows are typically that week’s EastEnders episodes.

However, as of the evening of Friday 2 February, behind EastEnders in #1 and #2, the first episode of The Young Offenders was the third most popular show on the channel.

That is fantastic news for the Irish show, and could very easily spell an early announcement for the series being picked up for a second season.

We here in JOE were lucky enough to visit the set in Cork back in September (full set-report here) and we have already seen the first two episodes (full reviews very soon!), and can confirm that it is just as hilarious and manic as the hit 2016 movie was.

Between this and Derry Girls, this truly is the year of great Irish comedy. Long may it continue!
