Part of cinematic history, the film holds a high 93% score on Rotten Tomatoes.

Hang 'Em High, the 1968 revisionist Western starring Clint Eastwood, is airing on TV tonight (Wednesday, 9 September).

The movie sees the Hollywood legend play Jed Cooper, a man falsely accused of cattle rustling by a gang of men. They unsuccessfully attempt to lynch him as punishment.

Saved by Marshal Dave Bliss (Ben Johnson) and Judge Adam Fenton (Pat Hingle), the lawmen offer Cooper a job as a federal marshal. This is with the caveat that he must not abuse his new power to seek revenge against his tormentors.

"But when Cooper finds that some of the men who attacked him are involved in another set of crimes, he fights to bring them to justice," the plot synopsis adds.

Hang 'Em High is a part of cinematic history for being Eastwood's first lead role in a Hollywood movie. This was after he starred in the iconic Dollars trilogy of spaghetti Westerns from Italy, which included The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

Praised for its dark story, its thoughtful exploration of frontier justice, and its central performance by Eastwood, the film holds a 93% Rotten Tomatoes score.

Hang 'Em High is airing on TV tonight on ITV4 at 9pm. It is also available to rent on Apple TV, Prime Video, and the Sky Store.
